Restoration of Welsh Bay | 1975 Bay Window | Paint L31 Dove Blue with L90D pastel White roof
We first spoke to Becci on the phone and after a chat about the condition of her van she booked in with us… The van was delivered to us so we didn’t meet Becci and Richard and their kids straight away although we had contact discussing options for their bay.
First job was to strip to a bare shell then take into be media blasted. It is only after this process that we can really see the true extent of the work required. It was clear that the newly named Welsh Bay would require a substantial amount of work…
The Welsh bay required a lot of panel replacement and fabrication to make a solid shell. Doors were repaired/replaced where needed…
The underside was media blasted and then we apply protective coatings. With a wax oil before the van leaves.
Now that the body and paint were complete it was time to start looking at the mechanical and electrical side of things.
Any van that goes through this level of restoration has a new wiring loom fitted, new brake/clutch/accelerator and fuel lines. A full overhaul basically. The engine was sent away to the guys at The VW Engine Company to refurbish.
It is only when a van is painted that you start looking at the external mirrors, head lights, door handles. Often they are heavily pitted. It is usually at this stage that a shiny shopping list is made…
Becci and Richard collected the van, went back to Wales to pack their holiday stuff and went over to France to watch the famous Tour D France…
It was a pleasure working with them both and hope that as a family they have some fab adventures.
